Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Students will be educated and challenged to continually grow and develop their technique. Ballet training will also work on providing grace, strength, poise, balance and flexibility which will help improve students’ training in other subjects and activities. At an advanced level, ballet students may have the opportunity to go on pointe and have more opportunities to study the unique and beautiful style of ballet performance.
Jazz – In Jazz emphasis is placed on developing proper technique and flexibility, as well as proper posture, placement, alignment. It can be powerful and percussive or lyrical and expressive. Students are encouraged to develop their own sense of style through movement. Our jazz dance classes include strengthening warm ups, isolations, stretching techniques to elongate and encourage muscle strength, across the floor movements, leaps, turns and center combination work to fun and upbeat, recognizable music. Students of jazz are strongly encouraged to study ballet simultaneously for the best possible jazz dance experience.
Modern/Contemporary Contemporary dance explores movement, space, rhythm and the dancer’s own creativity with emphasizes on momentum, shapes and patterns. This form of dance is inspired by nature, music, art, and human emotions. This class requires students to be at a beg/inter level of jazz, modern or ballet.
Hip Hop–Hip Hop is a blend of today’s high energy “street style” movement. Typically performed to “popular rap music,” This style of dance has been sought after by teens, Preteens and the “young at heart.” The style boasts that everyone is capable of taking part and having fun! Sometimes percussive and other times it incorporates “house or club” dancing, making Hip Hop the latest dance phenomenon.
Tap- Tap develops a strong sense of rhythm, coordination and agility by creating rhythmic sounds with the feet.Emphasis is placed on developing proper technique, learning challenging combinations, and developing a sense of presentation and style.
