Preschool Dance Classes
A student should learn more than just steps in a dance lesson. Your child’s dance class should:
- Stimulate their creative side and teach the value of self-expression
- Build self-esteem and confidence in his/her body
- Begin a life long appreciation for music, dance and the arts
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, your child’s dance class should engage them in an activity that is healthy, active and FUN!
Dance, like anything new requires time and concentrated effort to develop. In today’s fast paced world, it is becoming more and more difficult to keep children engaged in activities that don’t involve instant gratification. Dance Theatre South believes in teaching children that hard work and persistence can be fun, and that is the approach we take in all of our Children’s classes.
Our goal is to help everyone fall in love with dance in a way that is new and exciting. We know that once a child is hooked on dance, they willingly embrace self-discipline and focus on all other activities with enthusiasm.
Great care has been given to our program and Dance Theatre South is constantly updating and creating new ideas to engage our students. When your child takes classes at Dance Theatre South, you can be sure that he or she is developing a strong foundation in dance basics even if it feels like we are simply having fun!
Tutus for Tots : Offered to children currently 2.5 years old, or those that will be 2.5 years old by December. Introduces dance basics and inspires young dancers to express themselves through movement, developing their understanding of the art and technique of dance in an atmosphere of fun and purpose. Students will learn the joys of their connection with various stories and their characters. Memorization improves because the elements of dance are identified and used in many interesting ways. Focus on form, technique and composition increases with age and ability within the curriculum.
They will also learn how to participate in a group, take direction from a teacher, and take turns. Children are encouraged to participate in class, but are not forced to do so. For the child that is apprehensive about participating, we encourage them to watch until they become more comfortable. As each child develops differently, patience on the part of the parents, as well as the child is stressed. Our goal is to prepare the children to be more independent when they reach preschool age. Those children that have completed our Tiny Tots program have proven to be less hesitant and well prepared for our preschool program the following year. Tiny Tots perform a dance in our recital.
